SIMON DOONAN IN NEW YORK

Another day of New York Fashion Week, another night of surreal introductions. Last night, Simon Doonan, Creative Ambassador-at-Large of Barneys invited all 24 Tumblr bloggers to dine with him at Barneys’ Fred restaurant. I’ve alway admired Mr. Doonan for his creative mind and passion for his work and I’m happy to say, he lived up to all my expectations. Truly a charming man and terribly well dressed.

He was joined by Barneys newly appointed Women’s Fashion Director, Amanda Brooks and during a little Q&A, had something to say about what 2011 holds for men’s fashion.

BEN IN THE UPPER WEST SIDE

Ben was spotted at the Vena Cava show earlier today. I love how he paired up a classic outfit with a five toned plaid tie. Sometimes it’s about that one stand out item that makes a great outfit.

MICHAEL IN NEW YORK

I had the pleasure of meeting Michael Hainey last night, the Deputy Editor of GQ. It was an honour to speak with him and hear his thoughts on new media, specifically GQ’s new Tumblr. His style was everything you would expect from a GQ Editor but with a little added quirkiness that made it his own.

JAMES IN NEWTOWN

James (20) was spotted walking with his friend in Newtown on a Friday afternoon. I don’t think you’ll find anyone else who fits the tortured soul/musician bill as perfectly as James, or at least I like to think so. He described his style as anything I can afford that’s under five dollars.

LACHLAN IN NEWTOWN

Lachlan (23) was spotted just outside Bloodwood, a local restaurant that he manages. I really love the casualness of his outfit, while still retaining some sophistication with the front button pocket slacks and black leather belt.

OLIVER IN NEWTOWN

Oliver (27) was spotted in Newtown waiting outside the Dendy theatre after a dress rehearsal. He described his personal style as rocky/street but at the time was dressed in character, which was a bit more corporate.

I love the idea of playing dress-up in real life…playing to whatever mood you’re in when you wake up in the morning. I mean why not? Is there a rule against it? Apparently there is. I say screw them!

LEO IN NEWTOWN

Leo (18) was spotted shopping in the streets of Newtown. Being obviously younger, he noted that he didn’t have a particular style but was still playing around with his look. Although, I felt he pulled off the hipster/chic look quite well, channelling his inner Boy George.

DOMINGO IN ERSKINEVILLE

Domingo (29) was spotted in Erskineville while travelling from Melbourne. The editor of Inside Magazine, originally from San Francisco, described his style as modern/classic.

MICHAEL IN POTTS POINT

I spotted Michael (52) in Potts Point near Sydney’s famous Kings Cross. There wasn’t anything typically stylish about Michael when I first saw him but what did catch my eye was his flat cap. Flat caps were traditionally worn by working class men and became fashionable by younger men in the 1920’s. I guess I appreciated the throwback and how authentic the hat looked on him. And the fact that he took pride in his appearance and that he depended on it…
