Best Friend ClubWith just about a month until we celebrate International Dog Day and coincidently the release of my new book Dog’s Best Friend 😉, I thought I would share a little about how my sixth book (crazy that I’m writing that…) came to be. When it was suggested by my publisher that my next book focus on dogs, I was hesitant. Not because I don’t love dogs; quite the contrary. I have the utmost respect for them – I believe they are the superior beings on this planet. 🐶 Based on my previous titles, the obvious direction would have been to capture dogs in cute outfits and their equally stylish owners – Doggy Style – if you will. And although there’s plenty of that in the book, I wanted to delve deeper. So last year, I travelled around the world: Tokyo, Kyoto, New York City, London, Milan, Paris, Toronto, Melbourne, and my home town of Sydney, to document the unique ways in which dogs and their humans coexist in these concrete jungles. From my first stop in Tokyo in March 2024, to exactly a year later when I sent the final files for print to my publisher in Melbourne, the journey left me with an aching smile on my face. It was incredible to observe how people become unguarded in the company of their dogs, sharing their deepest thoughts about how they feel about them and what their dogs might actually think about them. It’s truly a unique relationship that I’m so honoured to have had the opportunity to document and have forever in print. If you’re looking for a smile or know a friend who might need one, I think this book might just do the trick. I know it did for me. 😊
